Laser Hair Removal
Hair Removal is a time-consuming daily routine for many people. While traditional methods such as waxing, tweezing and shaving are effective for removing the hair, they do not provide long-term solutions for hair removal.
Laser hair removal is one of the fastest-growing methods of ridding the body of unwanted hair. The appeal of laser hair removal stems from its effectiveness, efficiency and convenience.
New hair may appear over time, but in most cases it is finer, easier to manage hair and of course, target treatments can always be performed later to remove these finer hairs.
Candela’s Laser Hair Removal treatments use a patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™), which prepares the skin for treatment by spraying the upper layer with a cooling burst of cryogen in adjustable durations—milliseconds before the laser pulse. DCD helps ensure that the treatments are as comfortable as they are effective.
Laser and light-based treatments have been safely used for many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures.
The treatment is virtually painless. Your skin may be slightly red for a short time afterwards, this is normal and settles within 24 hours. We recommend to keep out of strong sunlight throughout your course of treatment and ALWAYS use an SPF [sun protection factor] 30 on the area you are having treated.

THE STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE FOR LASER TREATMENT
After an initial consultation, where you will be asked about your medical history and expectation, our Laser Therapist will prepare the area you have selected for the treatment. Note that you must clean the area and shaving it. If you have any tattoos or moles these will be covered and you will be given protective eyewear.
Once the laser machine has been prepared, the treatment head is moved over the area of the skin and activated. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the skin and converted to heat. The targeted cells absorb the heat, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected.
In a few cases, the skin may appear slightly sore or red immediately after the treatment. The laser specialist will apply a cooling Aloe Vera gel. Any redness will soon go down and you will begin to notice the results almost immediately after your first session.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
To get the best result treatments should be in regular intervals. We would suggest every 4 weeks for facial hair and every 6 weeks for other parts of the body. Our experience is that you should plan on a minimum of 6 laser treatments in total.
The treatment time may depend on your specific needs. Hair growth is reduced after each treatment and the number of treatments required will be based on your hair color and type, body area and skin tone. Remember that you can’t wax or use the epilator between the sessions.

ABOUT THE SCIENCE BEHIND ALL THE PROCESS
Laser treatment affects hair in the active growth phase (anagen stage). The laser beam is made up of precisely controlled pulses of energy, which are absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and reaches into the active hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, safely destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin. At any one time, 90 per cent of follicles will be in the anagen phase, so a course of treatment is needed to ensure that all follicles are permanently affected and will not produce any more hair. Most people will need a course of between 6 and 8 treatments after which time the hair will appear visibly reduced and skin will be smooth and even.
